A gap is an empty space on the chart: the stock opens above the previous day's high (a gap up) or below its low (a gap down), usually after news, earnings or a premarket move. The Gaps scanner checks every U.S. and Canadian stock after the close and lists the gaps of the last session.
A full gap means the whole day's range stayed above (or below) the previous day's range, so the gap never filled. A partial gap opened beyond the previous range but traded back into it. Full gaps show stronger buying or selling, and gaps that fill can show the move running out.

A stock gaps up when it opens above the previous day's high. On a candlestick chart, it leaves an empty space between the two days. A gap down is the opposite: the stock opens below the previous day's low.
In a full gap, the stock's whole day stays beyond the previous day's range: the low stays above the previous high for a gap up. In a partial gap, it opens beyond the range but trades back into it during the day.
For a gap up, it's the distance between the previous day's high and the open (or the day's low, for a full gap), as a percentage of that price.
Every trading day, overnight after the close. Stocks that gap often also show up in the Spikes and News Catalysts scanners.
